TBR Feature #13

Wednesday 20 July 2016

TBR Feature is the chance for me to, every Wednesday, pick one of my unread books and discuss it: why I picked it up, when I'll get round to reading it, if I'm still interested in it at all etc.

The Invasion of the Tearling by Erika Johansen

The Queen of the Tearling wasn't a book that impressed me. I felt that it didn't fit it's fantasy label, as it was set in a future world rather than an alternate one (it references Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, if I remember correctly, and they shouldn't exist in a fantasy world) and I didn't take much away from it. Add to the fact that I read it on holiday close to two years ago and it's safe to say I don't remember a thing.

The main thing that I do remember about it is how long it took me to get through, and it's not a very long book. It got to the point that my mum commented on how I was still reading it on holiday, whilst she was whizzing through her books. I didn't find it to be a compelling read, so I'm a little hesitant about the sequel.

If I can find a recap of the first one then I'll definitely pick this up soon, but if I can't and I have to re-read it then it'll definitely be put on a back burner. As much as I love fantasy, I don't want to put myself through purgatory.

Have you read The Invasion of the Tearling?

  1. I haven't read the invasion of the tearling, but I did recently purchase the first book. I want to read it but I'm quite nervous that I won't really like it.

    1. The first one wasn't what I expected at all, but I honestly can't remember enough to suggest whether you'd like it or not.

Got a thought or an opinion? I'd love to hear it.
