TBR Feature #16

Wednesday 24 August 2016

TBR Feature is the chance for me to, every Wednesday, pick one of my unread books and discuss it: why I picked it up, when I'll get round to reading it, if I'm still interested in it at all etc.

Wolf by Ales Kot

This is the first TBR Feature post about a graphic novel, which is surprising as I have a handful of graphic novels that I've still yet to read, as well as several I have my eye on in Waterstones. Usually, I get through comics and graphic novels very quickly - an hour or two at the most - but I feel like I need to spend more time on them. I have reviewed some in the past, but it's been a long time since I last did as I find them quite difficult to talk about.

Don't get me wrong, I love graphic novels, but due to their short nature there's only so much you can say about them without digressing. I don't want to just say whether I liked the artwork or not, but in the same breath I struggle talking about the plot of comics. That being said, the storyline for Wolf  instantly drew me in.

It seems to be part thriller, part horror, as the main character is a paranormal detective who has to look after a girl who could be the key to the apocalypse. It's safe to say I haven't read anything like that before, in the form of a graphic novel or a book.

Have you read Wolf?

  1. I haven't actually heard of this one! Awesome cover though.

When it comes to reviewing graphic novels - maybe try mini-reviews if you find you don't have enough to say for a full review? I'd read them! :)

    1. I'd never heard of it before either, but it was one of the cheaper ones in Waterstones so I had to grab it!

I would, but I'm funny about reviews and don't like writing short ones. I feel like that's not good enough when I do it. :/ Maybe if I read a lot at once and review them I could post a collective review? We'll see!

    2. Yeah - you could do it on a theme or something...? Y'know, like 'Reviewing 5 superhero graphic novels' or '5 noir graphic novels' :) Meh, up to you :)

    3. Ooh yes! I've been thinking of making Monday my review post day so I could definitely do Mini-Review Mondays or something! Such good ideas, thank you! :D

  2. Graphic novels are my favorite! I love them so much. I have never heard of this one, but I think I might go check it out. I have the problem of devouring my graphic novels as soon as I get them!

    1. I like to try and save mine so that I don't just read them all in one go. But it backfires and I end up hoarding them for months before I actually get to them!

Got a thought or an opinion? I'd love to hear it.
