TBR Feature #25

Wednesday, 26 October 2016

TBR Feature is the chance for me to, every Wednesday, pick one of my unread books and discuss it: why I picked it up, when I'll get round to reading it, if I'm still interested in it at all etc.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

Honestly, the thing that's stopping me from picking this up is the length of the chapters. From what I've seen flicking through it, they're quite long, and there's nothing that pushes me away from a book like long chapters.

I'm sure that when I pick this up I'll love it, as it seems right up my alley in terms of being fantastical and whimsical, and I've seen nothing but glowing praise for it. A lot of the books I read do end up having long chapters, and I am able to cope with it once I get into the story, it's only really when I don't that reading stops being fun. Hopefully I'll just get swept up in the story, as it does seem like a very beautiful one.

There is, of course, the danger that this is just too whimsical and out there for me. I've had this problem with Neil Gaiman before and I did really want to like his writing. Nevertheless, I will get to this at some point. Maybe even before this year is over.

Have you read The Night Circus?

  1. I agree that long chapters really push me away from books, but I've heard nothing but good things about this one! It's supposed to be a great autumn read as well :)

    1. Then we both really need to get on and read it, long chapters be damned!

  2. I loved this one! It was quirky as all hell - totally reminded me of a Tim Burton film ;)

Got a thought or an opinion? I'd love to hear it.
