TBR Feature #61

Wednesday 5 July 2017

TBR Feature is the chance for me to, every Wednesday, pick one of my unread books and discuss it: why I picked it up, when I'll get round to reading it, if I'm still interested in it at all etc.

Prince of Thorns by Mark Lawrence

This is a bit of a weird one, as I technically have already started reading it. Okay, it was only the first chapter in the library a few years ago and I can't remember anything other than crows, but that's not the point. The point is I already have an interest that will turn to investment once I pick this up properly.

The problem is: I don't want to read this. It holds a lot of memories that I don't want to dwell on, as I bought it in the company of someone I no longer speak to and I honestly felt that they were pushing this book on me. Yeah, I'd already tried it for myself but I planned on borrowing it from the library just in case, but then we found it in a charity shop and boom. I own it.

Money wise it didn't set me back a lot but my stubbornness and aversion to being told what to do has really put my back up regarding this entire series and now I don't want to read it purely to prove a point. Petty, I know.

Perhaps one day in the distant future I won't be able to resist the call that had be picking it off the library shelf in the first place, but for now it remains firmly at the bottom of my TBR. Despite however intrigued I may feel.

Have you read Prince of Thorns?

  1. I totally have weird relationships with books like this. I remember breaking up with an ex in the middle of reading a book series - and for ages believed that whenever I re-read that series bad things would happen.

We always form connections with the objects around us - but I reckon if you gave this a read it would help to 'clear the air' a bit :)

    1. You're probably right! It's just working up to actually doing that and pushing past the negativity. Hopefully it will happen soon as I'll have owned this for two years soon. Oops!

  2. This is a cool series! I don't think I have many books like that, where I have memories associated with them. I know how you feel though because I've definitely got the same thing with a few films, TV series and even whole places!

    1. I seem to mostly attach my memories to books, which can be interesting when it comes to actually reading them!

Got a thought or an opinion? I'd love to hear it.
