Another month, another list of things I loved...

Assassin's Creed: Origins
In the last few months I've accumulated quite the collection of PS4 games, but have only started playing a few. Assassin's Creed: Origins is one of those, and it's also one of the ones I've put the most hours into. (Last I checked I had 40, making it my second most played behind Skyrim, I'm pretty sure.) I'm sure most people have heard of Assassin's Creed even if they aren't familiar with it, but the franchise basically follows a group called the Assassins who fight for peace and free will. This instalment is set in Ancient Egypt and follows Bayek, a Medjay (protector, essentially) as he tries to overthrow Pharaoh Ptolemy XIII and destroy the mysterious Order that was responsible for the death of his son.

History
History has always been a big part of my life, mostly thanks to the fact that my history mad grandparents played a big part in raising me. Every holiday we went on featured at least one National Trust or English Heritage property, I had quite the collection of Horrible Histories books, year four saw me happily slaving away on a project about the Tudors, and GCSE History soon went on to become my favourite subject at secondary school. My late teens and early twenties, however, have been severely lacking in the past until now. I blame AS level History entirely for this, but Assassin's Creed sparked my love for the subject again, and August saw me consuming a lot of historical media. My top top three things would have to be the film Bill, the TV show Quacks, and Assassin's Creed.

Jemima (beawareofbooks)
I'm going to be a bit cheeky and slip a friend into this post because - while you shouldn't play faves with people, it's hard not to when you've seen them as frequently as I've seen Jemima this month. As well as our weekly coffee shop catch ups (that most certainly did not almost always turn into book buying sprees as well...) I spent a few days at her house and visited Stratford-Upon-Avon with her. I'd forgotten what it's like to make a new friend that just gets you, so I've been riding the high of that since we started talking in June. Add to this she's hilarious and runs a great blog where she discusses musicals, Shakespeare, and more, and you have yourself a person who is well worth a follow.

Yonderland
Going off Jemima, we also watched all of Yonderland together. Well, not physically together, but we both watched it at the same time and I was very pleasantly surprised by it. I remember seeing part of an episode on TV when it first aired and being put off by the puppets so never gave it a second thought. And then Jemima started screaming in joy about it and I thought 'why not? it's got some of my favourite actors in it, surely I can look past the creepy puppets'. And boy am I glad I gave it a chance. This show is absolutely hilarious, and just beyond ridiculous. If you're a fan of fantasy and comedy and are looking for something super quick to binge in a day, this is the show for you. It's dry, packed with puns, doesn't take itself seriously, yet still manages to have moments of seriousness and be somewhat heartwarming. What more could you want?

What did you love in August?

  1. Not only am I delighted to be mentioned as a favourite, I'm glad you added my screaming about Yonderland! I also very much look forward to more coffee shop catch ups in the future - at least when uni is back in full swing, we'll probably have more to talk about aha!

    1. How could I not include you after seeing you more than my own mother?! (An exaggeration, but only just.) I'm gonna assume our uni meet ups will be full of lots of crying though haha, because uni is the devil.

    1. I'm honestly still in shock about it haha - pure luck that we happen to live relatively close! Thanks, Cee, I hope you had a good one, too :)
