Reader Problems Tag

Friday 20 March 2015

The lovely Emily over at Paperback Princess tagged me to do the Reader Problems Tag. What this is is a list of scenarios most, if not all, readers and book bloggers will face, and you have to answer with how you would deal.

I won't be tagging anyone in particular, but if you want to have a go at the tag then I'd love to see your answers!

1. You have 20K books in your TBR. How in the world do you decide what to read next?
Honestly, I don't. I've tried TBR jars, making TBRs for the months, planning what I'll read in advance and none of it works for me. I'm very much a 'read whatever you feel like' person, so I'll stare at my shelves for a while and then pick two or three books I like the look of. More often than not, I'll ask my mum for help deciding because I'm dreadful at it.

2. You're halfway through a book and you're just not loving it. Do you quit or are you committed?
I'll try my absolute hardest to finish, even if it ends up taking me weeks and weeks. I hate giving up on books, even if I don't like them (I think I've only ever DNFed like 5 books).

3. The end of the year is coming, and you're so close but so far away from your Goodreads reading challenge? Do you try to catch up and how?
I'd lower my challenge to the amount of books I've already read. Or I'll try and get a bunch of graphic novels squeezed in. But more than likely, I'd cheat.

4. The covers of the series you love do not match. How do you cope?
I don't. I'll complain and sigh and then shove them on my shelf and try to avoid looking at them ever again, or I'll give them away.

5. Everyone and their mothers love a book you really don't like. Who do you bond with over shared feelings?
My mum because she has extremely different reading taste to me so often has no clue what I'm talking about and just let's me ramble on and on.

6. You're reading a book and you are about to start crying in public. How do you deal with it?
It's going to make me sound heartless but I'm not a book crier. I also don't read in public, so this would never apply to me. However, other times I've nearly cried in public I've always avoided looking at everyone and removed myself from the situation ASAP.

7. A sequel of a book you love just came out, but you've forgotten a lot from the prior novel. Will you re-read the book? Skip to the sequel? Try to find a synopsis in Goodreads? Cry in frustration?!
I'll find several synopses and move on to the sequel, in the hopes that it all comes flooding back to me once I start reading.

8. You do not want anyone borrowing your books. How do you politely tell people nope when they ask?
I don't lend my books out to anyone except my nan - and she knows my strict rules on not returning them in bad condition - so I don't have this problem. Most likely I'd just say no if someone asked though.

9. Reading ADD. You've picked up and put down 5 books in the last month. How do you get over your reading slump?
By reading a graphic novel, middle grade book, or another short fast book.

10. There are so many books coming out that you're dying to read! How many books do you buy?
Way too many. Although I probably wouldn't buy new releases as there are so many older books that I still have yet to read.

11. After you've bought the new books you can't wait to get to get, how long do they sit in your shelf before you get to them?
It can range from a few days to a few months. I actually have some Stephen King books that I got for Christmas in about 2010... and I still haven't read them.

  1. So happy you did the tag! I love to rant to my mom about books because she literally has no idea what I'm talking about haha!

    1. It was fun to do haha! My mum's started doing the same to me as well. She reads a lot of crime and when she finds a good one she tells me all her theories :')

  2. I'm exactly like you with my TBR list. I have a vague idea of the books I want to read in my mind, and when in a bookshop or library I basically just pick whatever one, or two, that I feel like at that moment.

I'm also not a book cryer. The Book Thief brought me close, but I managed to hold it in seeing as I was at my grandparents house around Christmas. Other than that I've never been brought that close. However, the film Serenity brought me close to the edge too.

Again, I'm pretty similar with you in regards to 11. When I buy a book, I either read it immediately or it rots away on my shelf for months on end.

    1. I'm dreadful in bookshops. I'll buy something and tell myself I'll read it soon! Only to then shove it on a shelf and forget about it...

I didn't find The Book Thief book emotional, but the film on the other hand did bring me close to tears. Books don't really get to me because if it's sad I imagine the scene to be less sad haha.

I'm so bad about reading and buying >.< I should put myself on a ban, but then I'd probably feel uninspired to read what I own, and so have to buy something new. It's a vicious circle.

Thank you for the comment! ^_^
