TBR Feature #23

Wednesday 12 October 2016

TBR Feature is the chance for me to, every Wednesday, pick one of my unread books and discuss it: why I picked it up, when I'll get round to reading it, if I'm still interested in it at all etc.

The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart

I know E. Lockhart likes to use long titles for some of her books, but I feel like this takes the cake. Why not something short and simple like We Were Liars?

It was actually my indifference towards We Were Liars that made me pick this up, A little odd, I know, but I didn't completely hate it and wanted to give Lockhart another chance. It wasn't the compelling mystery I expected, as I'd guessed the twist (which, honestly, isn't as unique and special as people make it sound) early on and the prose was far too purple for my liking.

I'm really not expecting much from this other than some lighthearted fun. It's no secret that I don't always get on with contemporaries, and the synopsis for this has already got me rolling my eyes and dreading the main character, who sounds like the typical Manic Pixie Dream Girl found in young adult contemporary fiction.

Nevertheless, I will give this a chance. Hopefully the writing doesn't try to be too poetic and I get a chuckle or too out of it.

Have you read The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks?

  1. Wow that's a mouthful! I loved We Were Liars so I'd be willing to give this a try, if it's anything like it.

    1. From what I've read about it it seems quite different to We Were Liars!

  2. Like Emily, I absolutely loved We Were Liars so I hope this one is just as good. :) Thanks for sharing and, as always, fabulous choice! <3

    1. I hope I enjoy it more. But even if I don't, the cover is really nice :P

  3. Never read any E Lockhart (which always seems to shock people!) and yes, that title is epically long; like, dude, were you hoping to name a Fall Out Boy song and had to settle for a novel instead?

Got a thought or an opinion? I'd love to hear it.
