TBR Feature #3

Friday, 22 January 2016

TBR Feature is the chance for me to, every now and then, pick one of my unread books and discuss it: why I picked it up, when I'll get round to reading it, if I'm still interested in it at all etc.

Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld

I read the Uglies series a few years ago now and was pleasantly surprised by the first book, only to enjoy it less and less as I continued. I ended the series giving Extras two stars and a less than thrilled review. Why, in that case, did I pick up Afterworlds

Westerfeld's writing meant everything was fast paced and (to an extent) interesting. Things weren't very complicated or deep, so it was easy reading that I'm glad I gave a chance. I don't often delve into science fiction, but Uglies was a good place to start. Afterworlds caught my eye with the promise of a story within a story, and hopefully more easy going sci-fi wrapped up in the real world.

It also acts as a part of my read longer books goal that I've had for a while. Coming in at 599 pages it's not exactly a novella, so in giving Westerfeld another chance I'm achieving a personal goal.

Have you read Afterworlds?

  1. I really liked Afterworlds. It had alternating realities and a really unique premise. Hope you enjoy it!

    1. Thanks! I can't think of anything I've read that's similar so hopefully I'll enjoy it more than Uglies. :)
