TBR Feature #21

Wednesday, 28 September 2016

TBR Feature is the chance for me to, every Wednesday, pick one of my unread books and discuss it: why I picked it up, when I'll get round to reading it, if I'm still interested in it at all etc.

Rebel Spring by Morgan Rhodes

This is another book that I've mentioned having no interest in - or at least no interest in reading the rest of the series after finishing up the books that I own. In the case of Rebel Spring, I bought it before reading the disaster that is Falling Kingdoms.

I've made it quite clear that I didn't enjoy the first book and have no interest in the following ones, but I still can't help but feel like I need to read this because I own it. I could quite easily give it away or put it up for sale on my Depop... Only I can't, because I have this completely ridiculous personal policy about at least trying all the books I own.

I'm hoping that I get on with this better than I did the first book, as I've heard no end of praise for the series as a whole. It does seem to be right up my alley, but the execution and the writing just didn't do it for me. Maybe things improve as the series goes on, but I doubt I'll ever find out.

Have you read Rebel Spring?

  1. But at least there's a moody cloaky hoodie guy with a sword on the cover ;)

    1. True - the covers are very mysterious and promise an epic fantasy. Shame I don't think it delivers :/

  2. Mm, yeah, I think this series is pretty well praised! I remember reading it a couple of years ago (Falling Kingdoms) and liking it, but thinking about it now... don't think I would! I'm just not the epic fantasy kind of girl, and the many character POVs in Falling Kingdoms did my head in :S But hey, at least now you have a book to take bookstagram photos right? :P

    1. I'm all about fantasy - be it epic or otherwise - but Falling Kingdoms was just bad. I wasn't a fan of the characters in it either.

Got a thought or an opinion? I'd love to hear it.
