Cinder by Marissa Meyer
If you want sci-fi with androids, cyborg, and aliens but still want a fun young adult story then The Lunar Chronicles is the way to go. Cinder introduces all the spacey and futuristic elements but it also lays the foundations for the bigger picture. And it's a quick, fun read - what more could you want?

Slated by Teri Terry
A dystopian with some scientific (and political) elements, Slated is a bit darker but still an incredibly gripping and compelling read. Full of mystery, you can't help but read on as you try and piece everything together alongside the main character, Kyla.

The Selection by Kiera Cass
And if you want something more romantic but still crave the action that comes with the dystopian genre, The Selection series is the one for you. Packed with princess dresses and drama the first book is less focused on the dystopian world, but it's so damn cute it doesn't matter.

  1. The Selection was right up my ally! Little bit of dystopia, a lot of fluff and the whole thing felt like a good reality show lol.

    1. Yep, that's the perfect way to describe it!

  2. To be honest, I've never been truly interested in Slated, but I'm definitely adding it to my tbr now that you've recommended it alongside The Selection and The Lunar Chronicles, aka two of my all time fave series.
    Great post!

    1. It is an odd one, but the first book is just SO good I'd definitely give it a try even if you don't want to finish the trilogy :)

  3. I haven't read cinder or the selection yet but I've had them recommended to me so many times that it's starting to become ridiculous that I've not read them! I did read slated a long time ago and I think I enjoyed it, but I don't really remember it and I never carried on with the series. I might have to re-read that one at some point and see how I like it now! Great recommendations!

    1. Thanks! I hope you enjoy Cinder and The Selection when you get to them. I do think Cinder is a bit weird and weak the first time you read it, but the books in the series just get better and better and if you end up loving them then you'll love Cinder if you choose to revisit it. Slated is an odd one, I'll give it that haha. But it's a good introduction to the more sci-fi elements that aren't straight up aliens and space. The rest of the series is weaker, though, so if you don't totally love it then I'd say don't continue with it.

  5. It's been a while since I read dystopian and sci fi, but I do adore the Selection! It's light and fun to read, despite the characters being frustrating most of the time :D

    1. I honestly didn't find the characters too frustrating! America had her moments, as did Aspen, but that was about it. Eadlyn is another story all together, but I don't count The Heir and The Crown as part of the orignal series.

Got a thought or an opinion? I'd love to hear it.
