TBR Feature is the chance for me to, every Wednesday, pick one of my unread books and discuss it: why I picked it up, when I'll get round to reading it, if I'm still interested in it at all etc.
The Glimpse by Claire Merle
This was a Christmas present a few years ago and I... don't know why I haven't picked it up. Obviously I wanted to read it, else I wouldn't have asked for it, and I still have the same interest in it as I did at the time, it just keeps slipping to the back of my mind and the bottom of my TBR pile.
The concept of The Glimpse seems very interesting and just my cup of tea, as it's a young adult dystopia where society is split into those who are mentally ill and those who aren't. Sounds horrifying and totally plausible, right? Segregation and stigma and very much part of today's real world when it comes to mental health, so it'll be interesting to see how it's handled and how it all turns out. Of course, being so sensitive and critical towards mental health, I'll also be keeping a keen eye out for how things are portrayed.
There is an element of romance to this - as there is with every YA dystopia - but I feel like a veteran of the genre (okay, I haven't read that much of it, but I know the tropes by now) so it shouldn't be too much of a drag for me. Awful and cringey, yes, but it's not an unexpected twist that will ruin the reading experience for me.

Have you read The Glimpse?
Wow this looks really cool! I love dystopia, I love books that deal with mental illness!
ReplyDeleteI hope it's as cool as it sounds! I think I might review it when I (finally) get to it, so keep an eye out :)
DeleteThat's what I love so much about dystopian fiction - authors take concepts and issues that are present in today's society and really create a thought-provoking and eerily plausible version of the future based on those trends. Definitely going to keep my eye out for your review! <3
ReplyDeleteDystopia is a bit hit or miss for me, but the ones that I love (The Hunger Games, Slated) are just SO plausible it's a little scary. I'm hoping to get to this quite soon in the new year, so hopefully you won't have to wait too long for a review!
DeleteSounds like one of those books which will be either awesome or a complete sh**-fest! (Let's hope it's the former!)
ReplyDeleteI'm really hoping it's good because it does sound promising!
