Ruler of Books Tag

Friday 14 April 2017

It's been a good while since I last did a tag so I thought one was due. The Ruler of Books Tag was originally created by Ariel Bissett on Youtube and it basically asks you what you would do if you ruled the bookish world.

If you were the Ruler of Books…

Which book would you make everyone read?
The Masked Truth by Kelley Armstrong. If you're into thrillers and fiction dealing with mental health, this is the book for you. Even if you're not, this is the book for you. It's so honest and frank and gripping and I could honestly just go on and on about it. It's so good.

What would you abolish in book construction?
The way abusive partners are romanticised in young adult books. The way mental health is romanticised and made desirable, or easily fixable. First person perspectives.

Which author would you commission to write you any book?
Julie Kagawa because she'd write me a kickass lead female akin to Allison Sekemoto in The Immortal Rules. Or maybe George R.R. Martin so I can have more dragons in my life.

Which book would you demote to the library basement to make room for new books?
All of The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices books, and anything else Clare writes that's set in the Shadowhunter world. No one needs to read those so can we just let new, better fantasy take it's place? Please?

Which cover artist would you commission to make a mural?
Luis Royo, the artist behind the cover and illustrations in George R.R. Martin's The Ice Dragon. Or maybe Chris Riddell. Both have such stunning styles and I'd love to see a massive piece from either.

Which characters face would you put on a coin?
My mind instantly jumps to Pennywise from It, as silver dollars played a big part in the story, but I think that would terrify everyone every time they went to buy something.

Which book would you award the “Ruler of Books” 2017 Prize to?
Blaze by Stephen King. It wasn't a perfect read but it was damn close. I find myself still thinking about it because it just left such an impression on me. Which is a little odd, seeing as it's a story about kidnapping.

What would you do if you were the ruler of books?

  1. This looks like a cool tag! I so agree with abolishing the TMI series and everything else. Those books are just un-called for.

  2. Cool tag! I kind of have to agree with anything Shadowhunter related even though I totally buy into every time (I just cave under the pressure). I loved TID but TMI was just insane.

    1. TMI just went on for way too long, I think. And I don't get why we need so many stories that are essentially just the same over and over again. But I do agree in that TID was better. Only just, though ;)
