TBR Feature is the chance for me to, every Wednesday, pick one of my unread books and discuss it: why I picked it up, when I'll get round to reading it, if I'm still interested in it at all etc.
1984 by George Orwell
Prior to seeing The Northern Ballet's performance of 1984 I had no interest in reading it. The dancers, however, managed to captivate me and make me want to read the story they performed so well. Their movements were graceful and powerful, emotive and strong, and I expect nothing less from the novel.
This funny little edition (the title is embossed rather than printed and didn't show up well on camera, it's not that it doesn't have one!) was in a local bookshop and I had to snatch it up when I saw it. I'd been talking about getting it since we came out of the theatre last November, but just never got my hands on a copy.
Now that I own it, it's just a case of getting round to it. I clearly know what happens and the fact that I liked the story enough to want to actually read it is promising, I just don't know how I'll handle the prose. It's no secret that I'm not a huge classics fan, or even much of a reader, so I'm a rather hesitant because I just find them so challenging to read. Thankfully, this is classed as a modern classic, it being written around the 1950s, so it should be a little easier for me to get through. Or at least I hope so.

Have you read 1984?
We have to read this in school this year. Honestly I'm kind of excited for it because I like the premise and have read a lot of great quotes from it. We'll see!
ReplyDeleteHopefully you enjoy it and having to study it doesn't ruin the experience! I have to say, I got lucky with A Streetcar Named Desire at college - I really liked it and analysing it actually made me love it even more!
